Multi-Space Electronic
Parking Meters
hit Downtown.
The City of Des Moines is hard at work testing the new meters and they'd like your help.
Parking meters are being put to the test in Downtown Des Moines. For the next several months, the City of Des Moines is looking at whether new, multi-space electronic parking meters will fit the needs of Downtown Des Moines' prospering neighborhoods.
Three Downtown locations have been chosen for this test period: Court Avenue, East Locust Street, and Robert D. Ray Drive in front of City Hall. Motorists will be welcomed to these streets not by individual parking meters but by parking pay stations, allowing them to use cash, credit, or coins to pay for parking. This added convenience means no more digging through car seats in search of a stray quarter!
The City of Des Moines is busy testing various parking pay stations to find the right fit for the Downtown community. Currently, there are two types of multi-space electronic parking meters: Pay by Space or Pay & Display.
Pay by Space: Park in an empty space and note the number assigned to the parking stall. Remember that number and head to the parking pay station located in the middle of the block. Enter your parking space number and your money and you're set to go!
Pay & Display: Find yourself an empty space along the street and make your way to the parking pay station in the middle of the block. Pay for parking and grab your receipt. Take your receipt back to your car and display it proudly on your dashboard. Go on your merry way!
