Written and performed by Bo Eason and directed by Larry Moss, RUNT OF THE LITTER opens in the final hour of Jack Henry's lifelong dream, only one thing stands in his way -- his brother. The play looks at what happens to two brothers in a family of over-achievers: when their parents assure their oldest son he is destined for football superstardom, and tell their youngest son he is too small to compete, a line in the family sand is drawn that colors the rest of their lives. Runt of the Litter is, in fact, a semiautobiographical account of Bo Eason's life and career as a defensive back for the Houston Oilers in the 1980s, where he played safety. His determination and killer instincts on the playing field remain the stuff of legend. His brother, Tony Eason was the quarterback who led the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl in 1986. It debuted in New York in 2002 and has subsequently been performed by Bo Eason at theatres around the country.

"Quarter Moon View" features such fine Iowa artists as Mr. Babers Neighbors, BeJae Fleming, Patrick Bloom and members of Brother Trucker. Arnold Lobel's beloved characters hop off the page and onto the stage in this new musical that follows two great friends - the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad. Through a year’s journey they follow the four seasons and learn life lessons including an important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special.
Developed by Mr. Lobel's daughter, Adrianne Lobel, the stage musical remains true to the spirit of the four original stories from which it is adapted.

Identifying trees in the winter without the benefit of seeing their leaves? A fun challenge! Come learn secrets to identifying many of Gray’s Lake Park’s trees during the dormant season so that you can all the more appreciate them when they “wake up” in the spring, already knowing what they will be. We will cover a combination of major (color and texture of the bark, overall tree shape) and minor (site conditions, twig detail) tree features you can use for identification - things like,. Feel free to attend regardless of your current level of knowledge, whether you’d like to just absorb a few basics or explore the more in-depth process such as observing twigs for additional classifying information . . . no one is going to test you at the end. The first 30 - 45 minutes will be a general discussion and focus on five easy-to-identify types of trees. The next hour will incorporate the use of hand-held magnifying glasses to observe unique identifying characteristics on twigs of several additional species. You are welcome to stay for all or part of the workshop. Hand lenses and identification booklets will be available. Free and open to all ages. Pheasants Forever has always billed its largest event, National Pheasant Fest, as more than an outdoor tradeshow. The show is really about your favorite hunting field or a nearby wildlife area. It's about Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever's mission. It's about wildlife habitat.
National Pheasant Fest is returning to the Iowa Events Center to rejuvenate interest in restoring and creating upland habitat in Iowa and beyond; to galvanize hunters to be strong stewards of the land; to give youth the sense that the outdoors and conservation can be fun and rewarding.
So bring the family, especially the kids. Come admire and inquire about the bird dogs. Seek out advice from wildlife habitat professionals. And of course, check out the great outdoor gear that will be available from all our sponsors and exhibitors. But most importantly, come ready to leave a legacy!

Steppenwolf’s AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is a grand, gripping new play which tells the story of the Westons, a large extended clan that comes together at their rural Oklahoma homestead when the alcoholic patriarch disappears. Forced to confront unspoken truths and astonishing secrets, the family must also contend with matriarch Violet, a pill-popping, deeply unsettled woman at the center of this storm. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is a rare theatrical event - a large-scale work filled with unforgettable characters, a powerful tale told with unflinching honesty.
Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is written by Tracy Letts and directed by Anna D. Shapiro.
The New York Times cheers, “AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is flat-out, without qualification, the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years," and Time Magazine named AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY the "#1 Show of the Year!"
