In June 1998, McClure set out to row across the Atlantic Ocean by herself in a twenty-three-foot plywood boat with no motor or sail. Within days she lost all communication with shore, but nevertheless she decided to keep going. Not only did she lose the sound of a friendly voice, she lost updates on the location of the Gulf Stream and on the weather. Unfortunately for Tori, 1998 is still on record as the worst hurricane season in the North Atlantic. In a thrilling story of high adventure and romantic quest entitled A Pearl in the Storm: How I Found My Heart in the Middle of the Ocean, Tori McClure shares that the most important thing in life is not to prove you are superhuman but to fully to embrace your own humanity. The author currently serves as the vice president for external relations, enrollment management, and student affairs at Spalding University. Her firsts include being the first woman to row solo across the Atlantic and to ski overland to the South Pole. She has worked as a chaplain at Boston City Hospital and for Muhammad Ali at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She appears as part of the Journeys Author Series.

It will our last chance to use such a large space (over 10,000 square feet) prior to the upcoming Hyatt Place Hotel construction.
Any downtown resident living in the 50309 zip code, can bring their items for sale, including any tables or other props, to the Liberty Building beginning at 7am on the day of sale for setting up. The dramatic play, A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, was first presented on the Broadway stage in 1959. It was later made into a feature film starring Sidney Poitier as the protagonist, Walter Younger. The play is about a black family who live in the projects in Chicago. When the father of the family dies, he leaves a $10,000 insurance check to his family to use for their well-being. As the conflict climaxes, the family loses the money but in the process, discovers that family love and pride are far more important than material wealth. The play has a universal message and thus makes it as appropriate to see today as it was fifty years ago.
