Western Gateway Association
The Western Gateway Association is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers, residents, business owners and representatives which was created to help promote business and events within the district as well as create awareness about one of the most unique and bourgeoning areas of downtown Des Moines. The Western Gateway Association hosts monthly networking and planning meetings to discuss ways to attract businesses, residents and tourists to the most eclectic and exciting place to live, work or visit in downtown Des Moines. The Western Gateway district is represented by the boundaries between Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy to the south, Grand Avenue to the north, 8th Street to the east and Fleur Drive to the west. Situated within the district is the Western Gateway Cultural and Entertainment District (CED) which allows for owners of properties within the CED to become eligible for tax credits which can be applied towards the renovation of historic buildings. The Western Gateway is the host to some of Des Moines finest events and attractions including the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park, the 80/35 Music Festival, the Des Moines Arts Festival and the Des Moines Public Library.
