Canopy Installed at Brenton Skating Plaza

DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA – The Canopy at Brenton Skating Plaza has been installed, enabling the facility to function as a unique outdoor venue, offering panoramic cityscape views and the benefit of rain and sun protection. This is the fourth year in a row that the one-of-a-kind 160-foot-tall Canopy has been installed. The venue is available for rent to companies and organizations that are hosting public or private events from May through mid-October.

“The Canopy at Brenton Skating Plaza offers the venue as a scenic outdoor location for corporate events, parties, weddings and receptions,” said Robbin McClelland, General Manager of Brenton Skating Plaza. “This allows Brenton Skating Plaza to be a popular venue all year.”

Brenton Skating Plaza is located at 520 Robert D. Ray Drive in the heart of Downtown Des Moines along the Principal Riverwalk. The event space has room for 1,880 people standing and up to 500 people to be seated. It is handicap accessible with fully-operational restrooms and Wi-Fi.

The Canopy at Brenton Skating Plaza is currently scheduled to host three concerts as part of Nitefall on the River, including Chase Rice on Thursday May 18, Everclear on Thursday May 25 and Aaron Watson on Saturday, July 22. More concerts will be announced at later dates.

The Canopy is 160 feet tall and is available for outdoor event rental, including reunions, business events and concerts. The Canopy at Brenton Skating Plaza is located conveniently along The Principal Riverwalk. Brenton Skating Plaza is funded by Operation Downtown, City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department and the Riverfront Development Authority. Brenton Skating Plaza is managed in partnership with the Downtown Community Alliance, which is a pillar of the Greater Des Moines Partnership.
